Intramural Floor Hockey Championships
The 18-team Intramural Floor Hockey program has come to a close as four division winners have been crowned champions for the 2010 season. In the Boys 14 & under division the Canadiens, behind the scoring of Jake Mastrogiacomo (3 goals), Nick Mastrogiacomo (3 goals), Freddie DePina (3 goals), Sam Mastrogiacomo (3 goals), Will McMahon (1 goal) and Philip Chomicki (1 goal) defeated the Capitals 14-3. For the Capitals, their scoring was provided by Avery Coke (1), Emoni Vicente (1 goal) and Cedric Correia (1 goal). In the Girls 10 & under division the North Stars edged out the Oilers in the championship game. Michana Smith (3 goals) and Victoria Andrews (1 goal) led the North Stars while Molly O’Halloran (1 goal) and Jayla Amado (1 goal) led the Oilers. In the Girls 18 & under division the Lightning just got by the Devils by a score of 5-3. The Lightning were led by Tayla Duarte (3 goals), Sydney McGrath (1 goal) and Jamila Barros (1 goal) while Maeve O’Brien (1 goal), Aisling Kerr (1 goal) and Shannon Zarnoch (1 goal) led the Devils. Lastly, in the Boys 10 & under division it was the Red Wings taking the top prize with a 8-1 win over the Sabres. Leading the way for the Red Wings were Kieran O’Driscoll (4 goals), Kevin Zarnoch (2 goals), Angel Jordan (1 goal) and Michael Kerr (1 goal) while Nicholas Clements (1 goal) provided the offense for the Sabres. Congratulations to all of the 2010 champions and many thanks to all of our volunteer coaches.
Music Clubhouse Program
The Music Clubhouse program is wrapping up the Fall session of classes this month and will take a semester break before returning in January. Re-registration for current students who have met the attendance criteria is ongoing while new students interested in taking part may register between 12/20 to 12/23. Currently, classes are offered in piano, voice, bass, drums and guitar and are taught by Berklee College student work-study interns. The Winter session of classes will begin on 1/24 and will meet weekly through the end of April. Other upcoming events include the start of our Music Theory Class and our Recording Class. We also offer Clubhouse Idol, Rock Band and a monthly Open Mic Night. In addition, for members ages 10 and up there are Open Music times built in to the schedule. These sessions are a great time for members to experiment on the instruments or for students in the lesson program to practice what they have learned. We would also like to congratulate members of the Choral Group who have performed at a variety of Club events during the month. Teen Program News
The Teen program at the Club will close out the year with a Holiday Party and extended hours during the upcoming school vacation. From 12/27 to 12/30 the Center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and we will be offering a variety of drop-in activities each day. After the first of the year the Winter program will kick-in. Teen members can look forward to the return of the Girls Group, Boys Group and Open Cook which all meet on a weekly basis. Monthly activities upcoming include the Girls Night (1/5) and the Munch & Mingle (1/19). On the Girls Night the Center will be open exclusively for our female members to enjoy a large group activity. At the monthly Munch & Mingle, teen members can discuss a current event while enjoying a family style meal together. Other Teen based activities include the Career Prep employment program and our Leadership Development program, the Keystone Club. The Career Prep program offers employment to deserving and qualified teens throughout all program areas. These teen leaders assist area directors with the implementation of activities and supervision of club members. The program is offered in partnership with the Boston Youth Fund. Meanwhile, the Keystone Club closed out December by volunteering at Christmas in the City and at the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Christmas Party. Upcoming events for the group include hosting a fundraiser, serving as tutors to younger club members and hosting their Annual Cultural Day event. The Keystone Club meets every other week and the members of the group rotate throughout the year leading various community service based activities. The Teen program is open to members ages 13 to 18.
