Reporter managing editor Bill Forry will take a leave of absence from the newspaper company later this summer to begin a one-year academic program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Forry— who has served as a Reporter editor since October 1995 — will begin his studies in late July and and plans to return to the Reporter in June 2010. As Managing Editor, Forry oversees the weekly Dorchester Reporter and Mattapan Reporter, and the monthly Boston Haitian Reporter, as well as the website dotnews.com.
Forry received a Shorenstein Center Scholarship in Press and Politics, which is awarded to an individual who has a proven interest in issues concerning the press and politics. The scholarship supports students who wish to pursue graduate study in the field of press, politics and public policy.
In anticipation of Bill Forry’s departure, the Reporter has begun a restructuring of its newsroom. Tom Mulvoy, former Managing Editor of the Boston Globe, will assume part time duties as interim managing editor; the company has added Mike Deehan of Dorchester, a partime staffer with State House News Service. Longtime contributor Gin Dumcius, a veteran State House reporter will expand his coverage of local politics for the Reporter both in print and online. Publisher Ed Forry will return to overseeing the editorial and op/ed pages. They will all continue to work closely with longtime Production Manager Barbara Langis, who supervises the production of the Reporter each week.
By mutual agreement, Pete Stidman, news editor for the Dorchester Reporter, has left the company for other pursuits.
