In our Athletic program we will be accepting registrations for the Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (I/SBL), Indoor Soccer and the Triple Play Fitness Club. The I/S Basketball League is for club members age 13 to 18 and is free of charge to those members who register on time. Registrations accepted after the March 14th date are on a first come, first serve basis and there will be a $10 late fee. Last year’s league had four teams in the Intermediate division (13-15) and six teams in the Senior division (15-18). The league plays games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. League play is expected to begin the first week in April.
The co-ed Soccer program will have three components. There will be a 4-team Intramural League for 8-12 year olds which will play games on Friday afternoons. For our 6 & 7 year old members we will offer a Clinic, also on Friday afternoons. Lastly, we will enter two teams into the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. league which will see our All-Stars from the Intramural program and our Denney Center Unit competing against Boys & Girls Clubs from across the region. For those interested in the Triple Play Fitness Club we will be offering this Indoor program for members ages 6 to 12, also beginning in April.
On the same day registrations will also be accepted for our Spring session of Art programs. Fine Arts classes will include Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Girls Art, Boys Art and Open Art with one class for Bantams and Cadets (ages 6 to 9) and one for Juniors (ages 10-12). These classes will begin the week of April 6th and will come to an end in early June. Marr-lin Swim Team to Attend Regional Championship Meet
After hosting their Annual Beanpool Meet on 3/8, the eligible members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will be hitting the road, heading to Lebanon, NH to take part in the Regional Swim Championships on 3/13 & 3/14. Our team will be joined by other Boys and Girls Clubs and U.S.S. swim teams taking part in the 2-day meet. The Marr-lins will return home on that Sunday. The meet will feature some of the top swimmers in the area and should prove a strong test of how much the members of the team have improved since practices began back in September.
This meet follows a successful showing at the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. League Championship meet which was held in early February at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. This 2-day meet saw all 16 teams in the league, and over 1,000 swimmers compete. The Marr-lins finished in 4th place overall. We congratulate the members of the Marr-lins on this outstanding accomplishment and thank them for representing our Club in such a positive manner. We would also like to thank the many parents who have volunteered over the course of the season at meets and with fundraisers.
After the regional meet look for the start of the 6-team Intramural Swim League, which combines experienced swimmers from the Marr-lins with new swimmers and graduates of the Swim Lesson program. Registration will kick-off in mid-April for swimmers ages 6 to 18 with try-outs (50 yd. swim) held for new swimmers. Once the teams have been assembled practices will be held one evening a week with meets taking place on Saturday afternoons. For more information contact Aquatic Director, Aquiles Gomes at (617) 288-7120, ext. 104.
