Summer Swim Team

The Summer Swim Team hosted the Waltham Boys and Girls Club and the Taunton Parks & Recreation Department for a tri-meet and will close out the season with a meet against the Watertown Boys and Girls Club on 8/13. The final meet will be followed by an outdoor barbecue for all swimmers and parents. Team members have been practicing three nights a week since the beginning of July and it shows as many swimmers are creating new personal best times. Following the meet against the Watertown Club the team will take a break before returning in late September for the school year program. Look for registration (9/19) and parent orientations to take place for returning members as well as try-outs (50 yard swim) for any new members ages 6 to 18 later in the month. Club Members to Attend Camp Northbound

To close out the summer program the Club will offer two special off-site activities, the first of which will see our 4th Annual Camp Northbound trip leaving from our McLaughlin Center site on Monday, August 17th. The trip is being offered in partnership with Camp Micah in Bridgton, Maine which is opening up it’s facilities and staff so that 150 club members will be able to take part in this special event. Club members from all three service locations will enjoy sports, water activities, arts, hiking, team building activities and much more. Thanks to the Camp Northbound staff and to the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation for making this special event possible and congratulations to all of the members selected to participate. Club Holds Career Fair

This past Wednesday, as part of the Safe Summer Streets program for teens, the Club hosted the 3rd Annual Career Fair which was attended by over 75 teens and 16 professional panelists. Members were able to hear from a variety of professionals during the night speaking on their respective careers including: how they got to where they are today; likes and dislikes of their jobs; educational background and; suggestions for teens on choosing the right career. Immediately afterwards the teens and professionals were invited downstairs for dinner and a chance to mingle. Our volunteer panelists included: Don Walsh (Software Sales), Mauricio Vazquez (Accounting), Annissa Essaibi (Business Owner), Tom McDonald (Carpenter), Edson Cardoso (High School Basketball Coach), Michael Christopher (Legislative Aide), Frank Campbell (Union Painter), Kevin Roach (Teacher), Linda Lyons (Boston Police Officer), Joan Arches (University Professor), Arianna Kelly (Asst. District Attorney), Daniel Montrond (Mutual Fund Account Manager), Bob Olson (Probation Officer), Tony Urcioili (Chemical Engineer), Chris Bown (Musician) and Kellie Fenton (Court Officer).
