Boys All-Star Floor Hockey Team Captures Championship
The Boys 13 & under All-Star Floor Hockey season has come to a close with our Boys successfully defending their 2008 league championship by repeating as league champs – with a well played 6-4 win over the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club. The team finished the regular season with a 6-1 record, setting them up with a first round semi-final play-off game against the Watertown Boys and Girls Club. Watertown put forth a great effort but could not withstand the attack from the home squad, falling by a score of 9-6. The offense was led by Sam Mastrogiacomo (4 goals), Nick Mastrogiacomo (2 goals), Edison Vazquez (2 goals) and Junior Monteiro (1 goal). To capture the 2009 championship our Boys would have to take on the Charlestown Club, the only team they had lost to in the regular season. This one was a nail-biter throughout. Charlestown led 2-0 after one period, and 4-2 after two. With the Charlestown goalie making save after save things did not look good for the home team. However, in the final period the offense started to click, resulting in four unanswered goals and a 6-4 victory. Leading the offense were Sam Mastrogiacomo (2 goals), Will McMahon (1 goal), Andronique DosSantos (1 goal), Nick Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) and James McDonell (1 goal). Congratulations to the Boys on a great season. Next up will be the Girls 14 & under team, who will also look to repeat as league champions when they host the Billerica Boys and Girls Club on 1/11.
